As the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives con­sid­ers the “George Floyd Jus­tice in Polic­ing Act of 2021” this week, the bill’s pro­po­nents right­ly decry per­ni­cious stereo­typ­ing and gen­er­al­iz­ing based on race.
Yet many of those who right­ly con­demn such dan­ger­ous bias­es, and the lies they are built upon, make mis­lead­ing claims of their own to advance anoth­er reck­less big­otry — anti-police bias.
To make the case for their ver­sion of police reform, the bill’s advo­cates are mis­lead­ing Amer­i­cans about the over 800,000 law enforce­ment offi­cers in the Unit­ed States and their often dan­ger­ous work.

On Tues­day, Pres­i­dent Joe Biden announced that there would be enough vac­cine pro­duced to be dis­trib­uted to every adult in the Unit­ed States by the end of May.
Biden’s announce­ment moves up an ear­li­er pro­jec­tion by at least two months, hav­ing ear­li­er pre­dict­ed the end of July as a goal.

On Tues­day, the U.S. Senate’s only black Repub­li­can, Tim Scott, blast­ed House Democ­rats over their forth­com­ing police reform bill, the George Floyd Jus­tice in Polic­ing Act (JIPA).
Because last year when Sen. Scott intro­duced his police reform bill, the JUSTICE Act, Sen­ate Democ­rats fil­i­bus­tered it despite sup­port from both parties.
Scott said Tues­day, “I am dis­ap­point­ed that the House has decid­ed to vote on a par­ti­san bill in an attempt to fix a non-par­ti­san issue.”

Crit­i­cism from the left was ram­pant after Texas Gov­er­nor Greg Abbott and Mis­sis­sip­pi Gov­er­nor Tate Reeves announced that their states are lift­ing mask man­dates and open­ing busi­ness­es up to full capacity.
Abbott cit­ed advance­ments in vac­cines and med­ical prac­tices for issu­ing his new exec­u­tive order.
“We must now do more to restore liveli­hoods and nor­mal­cy for Tex­ans by open­ing Texas 100 per­cent,” he announced.
He added the order ensures “that all busi­ness­es and fam­i­lies in Texas have the free­dom to deter­mine their own destiny.”
Abbott’s exec­u­tive order will go into effect Wednesday.
Reeves, whose order begins today declared, “we are lift­ing all of our coun­ty mask man­dates and busi­ness­es will be able to oper­ate at full capac­i­ty with­out any state-imposed rules.”

New York Gov­er­nor Andrew Cuo­mo has hired Elkan Abramowitz, a high-pro­file defense lawyer who has rep­re­sent­ed such clients as Har­vey Wein­stein and Woody Allen.
Abramowitz con­firmed to the Wall Street Jour­nal that he is rep­re­sent­ing the Exec­u­tive Cham­ber in mat­ters per­tain­ing to a Jus­tice Depart­ment inquiry of an explo­sive nurs­ing home scandal.
The Demo­c­rat is being inves­ti­gat­ed on mul­ti­ple fronts by Attor­ney Gen­er­al Leti­tia James.
Cuo­mo issued an exec­u­tive order last March forc­ing nurs­ing homes to take on patients that had test­ed pos­i­tive for coro­n­avirus. He didn’t rescind the order for weeks.
When the Jus­tice Depart­ment ini­tial­ly inquired, the Cuo­mo admin­is­tra­tion inten­tion­al­ly stalled and hid data on nurs­ing home deaths and how they relat­ed to his order.

As Sen­ate Democ­rats try to fit a $15 min­i­mum wage hike into the $1.9 tril­lion dol­lar COVID relief pack­age, Rep. Alexan­dria Oca­sio-Cortez (D‑NY) crit­i­cized some Democ­rats for not sup­port­ing Progressive’s demand for the measure.
Say­ing that oppo­nents of the min­i­mum wage increase were “liv­ing in a dystopi­an cap­i­tal­ist night­mare,” AOC took it a step fur­ther on MSNBC.
She stat­ed that, “when you take the min­i­mum wage from sev­er­al decades ago and you actu­al­ly account for infla­tion and pro­duc­tiv­i­ty gains to today, it should real­ly be $24 an hour.”

California’s largest Teach­ers’ Union, The Unit­ed Teach­ers of Los Ange­les, described the state’s lat­est plan to reopen schools as “a recipe for prop­a­gat­ing struc­tur­al racism.”
The pro­pos­al by Gov. Gavin New­som and state Democ­rats has already been described as a “com­pro­mise.”
In the midst of the tus­sle, New­som has also come under fire for his state’s strict COVID restric­tions, and faces a recall effort.
Accord­ing to KABC in Los Ange­les, under a por­tion of the new plan, Cal­i­for­nia school dis­tricts could receive up to $2 bil­lion in fund­ing if they reopen by March 31.
