Iowa dropped 6 places last year in state rankings of economic freedom, ALEC index reports

Iowa’s over­all eco­nom­ic free­dom rank­ing dropped from 27th to 33rd from 2020 to 2021, accord­ing to The Amer­i­can Leg­isla­tive Exchange Coun­cil (ALEC) annu­al Rich States, Poor States: State Eco­nom­ic Com­pet­i­tive­ness Index.
This was the state’s largest place­ment drop since 2008–2009’s drop from 23rd to 35th place in the nation, accord­ing to the report, which ALEC released March 12.
