New York Gov­er­nor Andrew Cuo­mo has hired Elkan Abramowitz, a high-pro­file defense lawyer who has rep­re­sent­ed such clients as Har­vey Wein­stein and Woody Allen.
Abramowitz con­firmed to the Wall Street Jour­nal that he is rep­re­sent­ing the Exec­u­tive Cham­ber in mat­ters per­tain­ing to a Jus­tice Depart­ment inquiry of an explo­sive nurs­ing home scandal.
The Demo­c­rat is being inves­ti­gat­ed on mul­ti­ple fronts by Attor­ney Gen­er­al Leti­tia James.
Cuo­mo issued an exec­u­tive order last March forc­ing nurs­ing homes to take on patients that had test­ed pos­i­tive for coro­n­avirus. He didn’t rescind the order for weeks.
When the Jus­tice Depart­ment ini­tial­ly inquired, the Cuo­mo admin­is­tra­tion inten­tion­al­ly stalled and hid data on nurs­ing home deaths and how they relat­ed to his order.
